Compassion

Compassion

Compassion is the quality of being acutely attuned to the emotional well-being of others, especially in the context of team dynamics and interpersonal relationships. It involves pausing amidst one's busy agenda to genuinely acknowledge and address the needs and concerns of team members. Compassion is reflected in being fully present, actively listening, and making eye contact when someone speaks rather than allowing one's worries to take precedence. It also includes a willingness to ask thoughtful questions about personal and professional challenges and a sincere desire to understand other's experiences. Furthermore, compassion extends to offering support, going above and beyond one's prescribed responsibilities, and being readily available when a team member is in need. Importantly, compassion should not be confined to others; it should also encompass being kind and forgiving to oneself and practising regular self-care to maintain emotional balance and resilience.
