Bunch of Roses

Like every time, today also I showed the picture and topic of my weekly zine to Inder (my husband). On seeing the image his first reaction was, “Why are the roses dry?”

Lot of us relate to roses as a bunch of beautiful flowers, healthy, rosy and blooming at their best. They are a symbol of love, friendship, peace and many more things.

Most of us do not appreciate dried flowers. They remind us of something decaying and dying. Something which is lifeless and has no beauty. These flowers do not relate to our normal interpretation of flowers and hence, it is difficult to appreciate them.

As human beings we are “relational species”. We like things which we can understand and relate to. We like things which please our eyes more than they please our logical side; where our mind wants us to go beyond what eyes see and perceive. I say, we even eat food with our eyes before we taste it. If it is appealing to our eyes, our mind tells us, it would be tasty as well.

Coming back to the dried roses, they have a good number of valuable benefits be it anti-oxidants or vitamins. I don’t want to talk about benefits of dried roses but by using this metaphor I want to bring out a very simple message:

“See an unabridged me and experience my wholesomeness”

When we see beyond what our eyes see, when we see a person as a whole - we discover aspects which are not visible on the outer side and find a beautiful being in them. While beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, at times beholder’s eyes are covered with lenses of perceptions. So, remove the lenses and feel the wholesomeness of people around you from a place within you. You may not only discover things about others, you may also re-discover yourself.

Have a wholesome week ahead.
