I was unaware of the significance of the neck in my day-to-day well-being, until I stumbled upon an article on how wellness of neck is linked to our mental health. The article explained the importance of neck in being the biggest and strongest pathway between head and rest of the body. All our important arteries and veins go through this path. It also holds emotions like fear and anxiety (as the neck is a vulnerable area).
That’s when I started on the regime of keeping my neck healthy, with basic neck movements, while focussing on inhalation and exhalation. Focussing on my breathing made the movements smoother and deeper. With every exhalation I could stretch my neck further in the direction I wished to.
I started experiencing some benefits from day one, like, relaxed neck and shoulder muscles, greater focus and calmer mind.
A few weeks in practice, I understood this was one of the physical pathways that I had opened; others - like Nadi Shudi and Seven Chakras - were yet to follow. I had become calmer and focussed. Hence, I could see things with greater clarity. I was listening more and started being appreciative of other’s viewpoints, which in turn helped me in my relationships.
My journey had just begun. I was to learn, unlearn and experience a lot more that was associated with these physical, emotional, cognitive and creative pathways. Opening and consistently working on these pathways have defined who I am today.
